70,000 visitors since the opening of the laboratory in 2006, a new monthly record with 1,600 visitors in October and 6,300 enthusiastic visitors at outreach activities! In the past year, a record followed another at the Vienna Open Lab.

"Full House" - the motto 2017

In October 2017, we registered a new monthly record with more than 1,600 visitors. One highlight was definitely our Halloween special with over 500 visitors. Shortly thereafter, in the middle of December, we welcomed the 70,000th visitor since the opening of the Vienna Open Lab.

6,300 visitors at outreach activities

Outside of our laboratories we were very active as well. At eight events, additional 6,300 people visited our hands-on stations to perform various experiments and investigate different topics: Children built a mini-treatment plant at the Danube Day, young people visited the Forschungsfest on Tour to observe cells from their own mucous membrane of the mouth under the microscope and the youngest visitors discovered colors of a lack felt-tip pen by means of chromatography.

Families as a new target group 2017

We are particularly pleased with the great popularity of our five-part workshop series for the whole family, which is the latest expansion of our program. The workshop series takes place in February and September and gives parents and grandparents the opportunity to work and experiment side by side as a team.

The team of the Vienna Open Labs would like to thank you for a great, record-breaking year 2017 and is looking forward to many exciting projects and events next year!
